Indiana Flu Web Site
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) Indiana officials are urging residents to be informed and prepared for the possibility of a flu pandemic. Authorities say the state is aggressively pursuing plans to react to an outbreak should it occur. State agencies worked together to create a new Web site -- www.fluinfo.in.gov -- to serve as a clearinghouse for timely and accurate information should the bird flu mutate into a strain easily passed among humans as some experts fear. Most human cases have been linked to contact with infected birds. The bird flu began ravaging Asian poultry stocks in late 2003 and it has spread recently with migrating birds to Europe, Africa and the Middle East. No cases have been reported in the United States, but officials say it is likely to arrive this year in migrating birds.
